A key reveal regarding has been a source of confusion, but a moment in Godzilla: Final Wars could help clear things up. For now, the plan for Toho's next entry in is shrouded in mystery. The Godzilla Minus Zero teaser trailer shed no light on the nature of Godzilla's return or if another monster will be involved.
History suggests that will indeed be the case. Since no version of Godzilla has ever had back-to-back movies fighting just humans, it does seem likely that Godzilla Minus Zero will try something different from its predecessor and give its take on the King of the Monsters a kaiju fight. As for who it might pick for the role, the trailer has offered only one possible clue.
Debris can be seen floating through the air with blue energy swirling all around it. Godzilla's atomic breath is blue, of course, but this doesn't resemble his powers at all. It could be that this tease is related directly to the monster chosen as Godzilla's enemy - assuming there is one.
The problem, though, is that aside from SpaceGodzilla (who looks set to join the Monsterverse), Toho's movies are light on monsters known for possessing such an ability. But it's also possible that the suspect who should be the most obvious is being overlooked, all because of a common misconception about his powerset.
Yes, King Ghidorah Can Control Gravity
King Ghidorah's signature attack is a yellow beam of lightning, which, admittedly, doesn't connect visually with what we see in the Godzilla Minus Zero teaser trailer. However, it's important to note the nature of this particular weapon in Ghidorah's arsenal: its canon name is "gravity beam."
Based on how it's typically utilized, it's easy to assume that the gravity beam is really just a lightning attack, but Godzilla: Final Wars proves otherwise. In the movie, its incarnation of King Ghidorah - Kaizer Ghidorah - uses his gravity beams to suspend Godzilla in the air during the final battle.
The ability was also showcased three years prior in Universal's Godzilla ride in Japan, Godzilla vs. Evangelion: The Real 4-D. But Final Wars remains the only time this aspect of his powers has been plainly depicted in a Godzilla film.
All things considered, King Ghidorah can indeed control gravity, even if the franchise as a whole has done little to represent that ability. If King Ghidorah truly is Minus Zero's villain, Toho may be looking to remedy that and show off an underused element of .
Godzilla Minus Zero's Title Could Also Be A Ghidorah Hint
The appearance of anti gravity in the Godzilla Minus Zero teaser is one of two possible signs that King Ghidorah will be the villain of the new film. On the surface, Godzilla Minus Zero sounds like a natural choice for a title to the sequel of a movie called Godzilla Minus One, but there could be a hidden meaning.
The term first came up in Invasion of Astro-Monster, when the alien race known as the Xiliens explained their codenames for Ghidorah, Godzilla, and Rodan, which are "Monster Zero," "Monster One," and "Monster Two" respectively. This detail provided the basis for the title of the movie's VHS release in the United States, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero.
The nickname has stuck with fans, and was also revived by the Monsterverse in Godzilla: King of the Monsters as Monarch's codename for the creature. It could return in Godzilla Minus Zero, possibly as the Japanese or American military's official designation for the kaiju.
For the time being, King Ghidorah certainly seems to be the strongest candidate to be the villain of Godzilla Minus Zero. There being a villain that's not Godzilla hasn't been confirmed, of course, but the franchise's aforementioned track record and the teaser's reference to "a new threat" does strengthen the prospect of another monster joining the fray.
