's newest movie, Swapped, has broken a record the actor and his films have been setting ever since the end of 2026. Having appeared in a range of well-known franchises and some of the most well-regarded films in recent history, Michael B. Jordan is more of a household name than ever in 2026, having gone from strength to strength over the past few years.

Of course, it's impossible to mention the actor's recent film history without mentioning Sinners, since the movie is one of the most critically lauded horror films of all time, as evidenced by , and the four Academy Awards it did win - which included Michael B. Jordan winning Best Actor.

Sinners is by no means the only well-received movie Jordan has been associated with in the past few years, with the actor having built up a movie roster in this time that most actors would be pleased to amass over the course of decades. Interestingly, though, Michael B. Jordan's most recent movie breaks one pattern the past 5 years had built up after the more criticized likes of Space Jam: A New Legacy and A Journal For Jordan.

Swapped Breaks A Review Record Michael B. Jordan Has Held For Several Years

Swapped is naturally something of a major movie in the , as a result of the film releasing right after Jordan received considerable praise for his dual roles as Smoke and Stack in the critically acclaimed 2026 historical horror Sinners. That said, Michael B. Jordan's film run was decidedly strong beforehand, with Sinners being predated by 2026's Creed III and 2026's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Though Swapped appears to have netted itself some praise, its review scores are the first time since 2026 that Michael B. Jordan has appeared in a movie that didn't have sky-high results. Swapped's review scores are still generally positive, but the new 2026 movie has seen some more critical reception overall, perhaps in part because of Jordan's stellar recent filmography setting an even higher bar for the film in the eyes of some critics.

Swapped has netted itself a notable 88% on Rotten Tomatoes' Popcornmeter - which reflects the general audience's perception of the film - but has a far lower 67% Tomatometer result, which shows the overall reception critics had for the movie. Similarly, Metacritic shows a 54 out of 100 for the film, and IMDb's reviews for the film come out to a 7.4 out of 10.

None of these results are bad, strictly speaking, but given Sinners, Creed III and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever all had strikingly positive scores - with none of these films falling below a 84% on Rotten Tomatoes in terms of their Popcornmeter or Tomatometer - Swapped's own results do break this streak for Michael B. Jordan, though the fact that Swapped's results are still positive does speak to the actor's talents and solid results in the 2020s overall.

Why Swapped Broke The 5-Year-Long Movie Record

Swapped's reviews thus far cite the film being entertaining on some levels, but not fare that captures viewers fully, or that does anything unique or striking with its story and arcs. This is by no means an outright crime in moviedom, but does appear to have marked the difference between the film enrapturing audiences, and dividing them in terms of their perspective on the overall quality of the movie itself.

Some of the criticism of Swapped also cites it playing by the book in many regards in terms of how it unfolds, with its narrative thus being predictable. Given the film aims to appeal to younger children, it does stand to reason that its story is subsequently fairly straightforward in some senses - but since a range of animated kids movies do a lot with these parameters, complaints about this approach do ultimately make sense.

Altogether, Swapped's results thus far still provide Michael B. Jordan's filmography with yet another generally positively received movie to add to the collection, even if this film hasn't quite reached the critical heights that we saw Jordan's movies hit after the more mixed results of 2026. That said, it will be interesting to see whether the actor's next movie roles mirror Sinners or Creed III's reviews, or whether they are closer to Swapped critically.
