is a phenomenal and intimate character portrait of Maul and a relatively quaint ensemble of characters. The series careens toward the Season 1 finale this Monday, (releasing two episodes simultaneously a week has led to a blisteringly quick season of television), and it is anyone’s guess what may occur in future seasons. But while everyone else is swept into Maul’s orbit, he is certainly not the TV show’s lone protagonist, and there is a lot of closure it will hopefully provide in its last two episodes of Season 1.

Brander Lawson, for instance, lends an incredible perspective as a former bounty hunter and detective, let alone as a father, whose view of the Empire is colored differently than any ordinarily oppressed citizen. As for Devon Izara, she may follow a long line of characters who have experienced the same trauma that she has, and yet her tenuous relationship with Maul and the possibility of her actually being a well-known character in are captivating.

Will Devon Become Darth Talon?

Primarily because she is also a female Twi’lek with a comparable skin color, fans have theorized that Devon is Darth Talon, with basically behaving like an origin story for her. It would not be out of the realm of possibility for Devon’s pink skin tone to grow redder with a turn to the dark side, for instance, and her complicated bond with Maul is deepening with each interaction and attempt of his to recruit her as his apprentice.

She respects Maul, knowing full well that engaging in an actual lightsaber duel with him would not end well for her, and is grappling with the fact that he was a Sith Lord, a sworn enemy of the Jedi. Of course, Maul also happens to be the key to Devon and Master Eeko-Dio Daki’s survival while the Empire has occupied the .

It seems unlikely that Daki will be around for much longer (it is fairly surprising that he has survived fighting Maul and Marrok on separate occasions), and his death would ultimately make Devon’s choice to ally with Maul simpler out of necessity.

Unless Talon was retroactively rewritten to be a far more interesting character, however, Devon gradually becoming Talon would be perceived as a devolution, not an evolution. This is because, apart from her role as an antagonist in the non-canon , Talon’s main allure is unfortunately her sex appeal.

Devon Izara Is Star Wars’ Best New Padawan Character

What would be superb is if Disney is seeing Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord’s story as a unique opportunity to as fans know her and insert her into the canon as a brand-new character, essentially. Talon is not currently canon, anyway, and thus, a character retcon of this magnitude is likely one that Star Wars fans would unanimously celebrate.

Either way, Devon is a fantastic character. She inherits the same origin story of the likes of Ahsoka Tano, Cal Kestis, and Kanan Jarrus as a Padawan who survived the , and consequently bears a more nuanced and interesting ideology than many traditional Jedi. Whether or not she becomes a canon iteration of Talon, it will be fascinating to see how her story unfolds in Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.
