With season 1's captain character making a tragic exit in the finale, a new one is officially on their way in for season 2.
Paramount has confirmed two new additions to , including Bokeem Woodbine as the NYPD's Homicide Captain Mixon and Nona Parker Johnson as Officer Fiona Mixon, the Captain's daughter. Captain Mixon is described as a "bulldog of a homicide captain," while Fiona is a "nepo-baby in the police world" as a training officer in the Homicide unit.
Though the NYPD's homicide captain wasn't introduced in season 1, the position was previously represented in the sequel series by returning original character Angel Batista (David Zayas), who served as Miami Metro's Homicide Captain before retiring and hunting down Michael C. Hall's Dexter Morgan. Since in Dexter: Resurrection season 1's penultimate episode, it makes sense that the series would usher in a new figure with the same role,
Paramount also revealed that Officer Mixon will serve as a new love interest for Jack Alcott's Harrison Morgan, which seems to indicate that his season 1 romantic interest Gigi Jones (Emily Kimball) may not be back. It's also unclear whether Harrison's close friend and former co-worker, Elsa (Emilia Suárez), will be returning given his new career pivot.
With the addition of a new officer and the introduction of a captain, Dexter: Resurrection season 2 promises a deeper look at the inner workings of the NYPD's hunt for serial killers after being represented by Detectives Wallace (Kadia Saraf) and Oliva (Dominic Fumusa) in season 1. While Wallace and Oliva are back for season 2 and teased to be focused on the ) case, Captain and Officer Mixon offer a more fleshed-out police force akin to Dexter's original series.
Furthermore, it seems increasingly likely that Dexter and Harrison, in particular, will become more involved in the NYPD's operations, as Harrison began his schooling to join the police force before the . Similar to how Dexter's romantic relationship with Chief of Police Angela Bishop in Dexter: New Blood allowed him more intimate access into the local law enforcement's investigations and records, Harrison now provides this asset through his schooling and romance with Officer Mixon.
Prior to Dexter: Resurrection, some of Woodbine's most notable acting credits include roles in Fargo season 2, Ray, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Jason's Lyric. Meanwhile, Johnson has previously appeared in Mayor of Kingstown, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Fear the Walking Dead, Them, and The Handmaid's Tale.

In addition to the returns of Hall as Dexter, Alcott as Harrison, James Remar as Harry Morgan, Saraf as Wallace, Fumusa as Oliva, and Uma Thurman as Charley Brown, Woodbine and Johnson join a growing ensemble of newcomers for season 2. Recently announced additions include Brian Cox as major villain The New York Ripper and , two new serial killers whom Dexter will certainly want on his table.
With Dexter: Resurrection season 2 now officially in production in New York City, more casting announcements are expected to arrive in coming weeks. Though Paramount has yet to confirm an officially release date, series showrunner and creator Clyde Phillips has indicated an October 2026 premiere window for season 2.
