Ever since the scale and ambition of became apparent, conversations around exactly how much it is going to cost have dominated among members of the community. On the forums, threads regularly pop up about the maximum amount people would be willing to pay, and it's fair to say that most haven't been able to reach a consensus.
On the one hand, some argue that, given how big and expensive a game we expect it to be, a higher price tag than normal is only fair. Others are worried that if , or even something beyond that, it could set a dangerous precedent for the industry moving forward.
Now, one price has emerged online, and it could be troubling news if you had concerns about the game being priced highly.
As first by GamesRadar+, fans have noticed that Dutch retailer Gameshop Twente has now listed the game at a price of €99, which equates to about $115 at the time of writing. The obvious caveat here is that the price could easily be a placeholder, which the store will change when the RRP becomes apparent.
At the same time, it will do little to quiet and calm the gathered hordes, many of whom are genuinely concerned that they could be priced out of the GTA VI party when the time comes. Over on , fans reacted to the news in the way you might imagine, with many either refusing to believe it or expressing genuine concern that it could be real.
"I'll be shocked if the standard edition of the game is 100 euros," one . "Sounds like they saw the news and just put it up. My guess is that they won't do anything that crazy," another .
The very cynical among you may also point to the idea that stores which list the price of GTA VI almost invariably get covered in some form by the media and community, thus drawing attention to the fact that they sell products in the first place.
The fact remains that we haven't heard anything official from or Take-Two Interactive about their pricing strategy for the game, and until we do, we have to take any info we receive from other sources with a pinch of salt. Otherwise, let's just hope that GTA VI is everything we're hoping it's going to be, or the developer might have digital riots on their hands.
