In 1999, Nintendo changed the world for fans with the release of a game that has no right to be as good as it is. With help from Victor Interactive Software, the N64 became the home of 's third release, marking a revolutionary release for the life-sim genre. The game not only solidified the Harvest Moon franchise with gamers, but it sucked in unassuming kids with its addictive charm. Almost 30 years later, Harvest Moon 64 remains one of the franchise's most beloved entries, and now it is eyeing its move to PCs.
Believe it or not, fans have come together to reinvigorate Harvest Moon 64 with new life. In the wake of the game's Nintendo Classics revival, life-sim lovers came together to broaden their farming horizons. In 2026, netizens began working on a decompilation of Harvest Moon 64 in order to rebuild the classic game on PC. , and fans have been given a tease of how Harvest Moon 64 will look when its fan-made PC edition goes public.
Over on YouTube, as you can see above, OpenSource brought the Recompilation Showcase to life, and it proves Harvest Moon 64 will work beautifully on PC. "Play Harvest Moon 64 natively on PC through static recompilation. Coming Soon," the new teaser reads. "Includes properly scaled UI for ultrawide displays and day-one mod and texture support through N64Recomp. The project does not include game assets. The original game is required to play."
After close to 30 years, this recompilation promises to breathe . The title helped turn the life-sim genre into the cozy juggernaut netizens know today. Without the release of Harvest Moon 64, best-selling titles like It is only fitting that fans have found a way to bring Harvest Moon 64 to a new horizon, putting it on a shelf next to PC giants such as The Sims and even Farming Simulator. While re-releases of the iconic game have been done, Harvest Moon 64 has never made the leap to PC before. But once this fan-made recomp is complete, that will all change.
Of course, the Harvest Moon franchise is no stranger to PC releases. The series, which is now known as Story of Seasons, is now supported on Steam. You can find titles like Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town digitally as well as several other main titles, including its newest Grand Bazaar release. Given the franchise's string of recent remakes, an official PC port of Harvest Moon 64 isn't out of the question entirely. But for now, the fandom's ongoing recomp is our best shot.

The N64 has become the latest target for fans as they search for classic video games begging for PC ports. In the past year, titles ported to PC through the power of recompilation. From Bomberman 64 to Banjo-Kazooie and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the crave is only growing as netizens search for new ways to access their favorite childhood games.
