are releasing in 2027, but there's already been a lot of talk surrounding the . A number of new and returning Pokémon were shown off in the first trailer for the games back in February, and alleged leaks have continued to show off regional variants and more.

Most of the modern Pokémon games have had around 400 Pokémon in their respective Pokédex, usually after all DLC has been released. This is why many fans are assuming Gen 10 games will have a similar Pokédex count, even though Winds and Waves are supposedly much larger games in terms of scale and scope. Over on , the size of Winds and Waves' Pokédex is already a hot-button issue.

How Many Pokémon Will Winds & Waves Have?

"Do you think they will keep the Pokédex at 400 or expand it?" the original post on Reddit reads. "Personally i'm hoping for more than the 400 they gave us for both Sword/Shield and S/V." It's exactly the kind of question that's fun to debate and speculate over. And many fans weighed in on what they'd like from Winds and Waves' Pokédex.

"I really do hope they found a way to fix the issue that Scarlet/Violet had where it feels like so many areas are barren or you only run into the same few Pokémon. Even if they don’t increase the Pokédex, I’m hoping for improvements on the spawns or availability," reads one of the responses.

"Personally I would take 400 fully animated and unique mons over 1000 with bare-bones animations," replied another Reddit user.

"I hope they start expanding it cuz not only does 400 every time feel forced, it means just seeing the same mons in every game cuz Game Freak has a rather extreme bias," replied another user in the thread.

"WITH MORE THAN 1000 POKÉMON AND 5 YEARS OF DEVELOPING, THEY SHOULD ADD AT LEAST 500," commented someone else in all caps.

There Are 48 Confirmed Pokémon So Far

After watching the Winds and Waves trailer, we've counted a total of so far. That's a long way from 400, but assuming that number is correct, then it means we know roughly 1/8 of all Pokémon in the new region. Considering Winds and Waves don't release until 2027, we'll definitely be seeing more before launch.

In the meantime, the speculated Pokédex count for Winds and Waves seems pretty likely. It does, after all, go along with what we've seen in the most recent mainline games on Switch. Of course, if The Pokémon Company goes all out for Gen 10 and gives us a much larger Pokédex, we'd be all for that. It's just the thing that could make Pokémon Winds and Waves an instant classic.
