has been going strong for over 12 years now, and the latest announcement proves that Rockstar isn't giving up on it any time soon. While the inevitable may eventually usurp the popularity of GTA 5's offering, there are still some months before that possibility even rears its head.

One of the biggest recent changes to GTA Online was the introduction of the Rockstar Mission Creator, which allows players to craft their own missions with a tool set specifically designed for that purpose. Now, Rockstar has kicked off a new content series involving the Mission Creator.

GTA Online Community Mission Series Old School Hits

This week, the official website announced Old School Hits, the first in a Community Mission Series program of missions crafted in the Rockstar Mission Creator. Old School Hits kicks off on April 30, offering a selection of missions inspired by the original .

For a limited time, playing these missions will pay out 4X GTA$ and RP, making it a worthwhile endeavor even for those without a nostalgic attachment to classic GTA games. Creators can earn even bigger benefits, with Rockstar offering a one-time GTA$10,000,000 award to anyone who gets featured in the Community Series. Featured creators will also receive the Rockstar Community Series Varsity Jacket and Mansion Trophy as in-game rewards.

Old School Hits is only the beginning of the Community Mission Series concept, with Rockstar telling players to watch out for "more community-made Missions to land in the Series later this year." Anyone who wants a chance to have their content featured in future series should take their published Missions with "#communityseries", and Mission prototypes can also be shared in the official Rockstar Games Discord server to seek feedback from other creators.

Instructions for how to jump into creating missions can be found on the Rockstar Games post announcing Old School Hits, with more detailed tutorialization available in five official in-game missions.

The new emphasis on community-created Missions could be our best look yet at how Rockstar plans to support GTA Online in the future. Official content additions probably won't go away any time soon, with GTA Online's recurring revenue still setting an unbelievable standard, but the GTA 6 era will eventually have to become the focus.

If the community continues to , however, GTA Online's replayability could be secure for years to come. Old School Hits might not feel like a major pivot for Grand Theft Auto Online, but it's the quiet start of a new era for the game.
