Overall, the plot sounds too plain and simple — definitely less bold than what came before it in The Rookie season 8. However, the way "Tiger Bear" executes this narrative is what makes it so effective. There's something touching about how she tackles what seems like an impossible situation, knowing what it feels like to deal with not knowing about what happened to their loved ones. Celina is so enthusiastic about the cause that even after everything she goes through during the case, she tells Hernandez to call her once he has another case for her.
The Rookie Needs To Get Back To It Simple But Compelling Cases (& Celina Is The Perfect Character For It)
Admittedly, it's commendable that Hawley and his writers are trying to switch things up every week. keeps people invested, preventing the chances of the series going stale. However, overdoing the constant changes can give off a frantic vibe, which can be detrimental to the core principle of a network TV procedural. Kicking off Celina's arc in "Tiger Bear" is an indication that The Rookie is going back to basics with its storytelling, as the series can revisit the plot whenever a new missing person mystery comes across Hernandez's desk.
While The Rookie can utilize any character for this kind of storyline, Celina is the perfect candidate to spearhead this endeavor. Lisseth Chavez is still relatively new to the procedural, which means there are still a lot of personal storylines to explore for the character. That said, she has been in the show long enough that fans are already invested in whatever happens to her moving forward.
