Will Trent season 5 Is Officially Confirmed By ABC
ABC took its time when it came to deciding which shows would return for the 2026-2027 TV cycle and which ones would be ending their runs. While they announced their verdicts early on for shows like High Potential and Abbott Elementary, it took them a while before they decided on other projects, including the Ramón Rodríguez-led procedural. By early April, ABC finally confirmed Will Trent season 5, which was a welcomed development for the project.
For what it's worth, there was barely any doubt that ABC would pull the plug on something as successful as Will Trent. However, it's still nice to have its future confirmed ahead of the finale, so writers could also craft a send-off with the guarantee that it would have more time to address lingering stories.
When Will Will Trent season 5 Release?
For now, ABC has yet to confirm its 2026-2027 schedule, unlike CBS. This means that while the Disney-owned network has already renewed Will Trent and other scripted shows, they still don't have exact premiere dates. Assuming that ABC won't drastically change its programming lineup for next year, it's safe to say that the Atlanta-based procedural will keep its previous day and timeslot, Tuesdays, 8 PM ET. With that, Will Trent season 5 is expected to premiere in the midseason, so fresh episodes will likely roll out sometime in January.

Considering the , the incident will continue to have a ripple effect in Will Trent season 5. For starters, the show will have to officially replace her, which will drastically change the dynamic in GBI. The creatives behind the series can't introduce someone similar to Sonja Sohn's character, otherwise, it would only cheapen the tragedy. This will be particularly interesting in terms of how Wilbur's relationship with his next boss will be, given how close he was with Amanda.
Beyond that, there's also increased interest in seeing what Angie being a new mom means for her and the show in general. Having a child can alter the way she approaches her work, especially considering how dangerous it could be. It's also curious to see where her evolving dynamic with Wilbur goes after a particularly transformative Will Trent season 4.
