Sophie Thatcher will be back on the big screen this summer with Her Private Hell.

The sci-fi horror film hails from Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of movies like Valhalla Rising (2009), Drive (2011), and The Neon Demon (2016). Thatcher, who is best known for , stars in the Neon film opposite Charles Melton, Dougray Scott, Kristine Froseth, Havana Rose Liu, and Diego Calva.

Per , Her Private Hell has now set its sights on a July 24 theatrical release date following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival later in May. The film will open in 800 to 1,200 theaters, marking a moderate release.

Accompanying the new release date is more information about the plot, which will revolve around actresses who gather at an upscale hotel in a metropolis future to film a sci-fi movie akin Barbarella (1968). The production is complicated by a sadistic killer called Leather Man, who is targeting women around the city.

For Refn, Her Private Hell will be his first directorial feature film in a decade, with The Neon Demon marking his previous release. Since this 2016 movie starring Elle Fanning, however, Refn has stayed busy in the world of streaming, shepherding miniseries like and Copenhagen Cowboy (2026) to the small screen.

Her Private Hell will release as the wait for continues. The upcoming season will mark the end of the Showtime series, in which Thatcher plays the teenage version of Natalie. Outside of her role in the hit survival thriller show, Thatcher has made a name for herself in the world of horror, appearing in The Boogeyman (2026), MaXXXine (2026), Heretic (2026), and Companion (2026).

With a release on July 24, Her Private Hell currently has a weekend to itself, with no other major studio films scheduled to arrive on that date. The film will sit between the release of on July 17 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, however, meaning there will certainly still be competition as audiences are drawn to the tentpoles on either side of it.

That being said, Her Private Hell, like many of Refn's past projects, was always likely to be a somewhat niche offering anyway. The director's movies tend to be atmospheric and cerebral, and Her Private Hell may not be the jump-scare-laden mainstream horror flick some are expecting. For now, not enough is known about the movie to be sure one way or another, but it's definitely one to keep an eye on as July 24 approaches.
